Tools We Use

Everything that powers The Frugal Analyst — from the AI that writes our daily analysis to the government databases we pull data from. This is the actual stack, not a curated marketing list.

AI & Analysis

  • Anthropic (Claude) — Powers every analysis on this site. Claude reads financial filings, calculates labor-adjusted metrics, and writes each daily post from raw data to published prose.
  • Financial Modeling Prep — Our primary financial data API. Standardized income statements, balance sheets, and ratios — so we don't have to parse raw XBRL from every filing.

Hosting & Development

  • GitHub Pages — Free static site hosting with automatic deploys on every merge. Hard to beat the price.
  • Astro — The static site framework behind this site. Ships zero JavaScript to the browser by default — just fast, clean HTML.
  • Python + uv — Our data pipeline runs on Python, managed by uv for fast, reproducible dependency resolution and script execution.

Data Sources

  • FRED — Federal Reserve Economic Data — macroeconomic indicators, interest rates, and sector benchmarks.
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics — Employment, wages, and labor market data. Essential for the labor economics lens that defines our analysis.
  • SEC EDGAR — The authoritative source for corporate filings. We pull 10-K and 10-Q data directly when we need to go beyond our API.

Services

  • Squarespace — Domain registration and DNS for frugalanalyst.com. Simple management, reasonable renewal pricing.
  • Google Workspace — Email, docs, and project coordination. Our @frugalanalyst.com email runs through Workspace.
